HAVE A GOOD NIGHT!

In DECO HOME, Thomas Mang shares his interior design tips for a good and restful sleep.

Strength lies in tranquillity. And, incidentally, so does the key to a successful bedroom design.

How it can be interpreted in different ways, why mirrors are generally a no-go, and what else is good for the soul and sleep… architect and interior designer Thomas Mang reveals the answers to these four questions.

1. Are you a lark or an owl?

I’m a classic lark, so an early riser. In the morning, you can still get things done in peace before the day’s uncertainties set in.

2. What is particularly important when designing a bedroom?

That it’s really cosy here! The room should radiate calm. I think you literally need room to breathe in the bedroom. So the motto is: don’t overfill it and it’s better to leave things out. Also, the bed should never be placed against an external wall, but rather against an internal wall in the building.

3. What else is a no-go?

Definitely mirrors. Because they’re distracting and unsettling. It’s actually been proven that you sleep worse with mirrors in the room.

4. Which colours are particularly suitable for the bedroom?

Personally, I particularly like colours such as taupe and beige, but also shades of green and aqua. It’s important to mix light and darker accents. Just like with different materials and patterns.
